james 1:22-25

22But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

How and why is it important for us to study and be consistent in God’s word daily?

The Scripture is what God has given us to know Him, guide us into truth, and to instruct us in Godly living.

Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

2 Timothy 3:16

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God , and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness ,that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

To a Christian the bible is truly authoritative. It is what we should live our lives by, right ? So, if this is true, how can we do this if we are not reading and studying it? Many people just listen to a pastor’s sermon and take what is spoken as always correct. I like what a pastor I follow says , “open your bibles to see whether I am telling you the truth.”

2 Timothy 2:15

Study to show yourself approved unto God, a worker unashamed , rightly dividing the word of truth.

Why should we study the Bible?

  • Discern false teachers who lead many astray down the wide road.

  • So that we may grow overall in our understanding of who God is, and how He wants us to live our lives.

  • So that we will be convicted/repent, and continue in process of sanctification.

Doctrine matters, and we see many pastors who teach things from prosperity gospel ,universalism, up to simply slipping your hand up one time in church, and you’re saved. Any of these which can easily mislead people. We are continually warned about these throughout scripture.

( Matthew 7:15,24:24, Mark 13:5, Luke 6:26,12:1,21:8, Jeremiah 14:14, 2 Timothy 4:3, Acts 20:28, 2 Peter 2:1,14-18, 1 John 4:1-6,Titus 1:10-16, Jude 1:4)

How will we know if we are being led astray if we aren’t in the word being led by His Holy Spirit?

Romans 15:4

For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the Scriptures we may have hope.

Write the word on your heart!!

Is the Bible a central part of your daily life?

In what ways do you read/study scripture?

Try different things until you find what works best with your schedule or lifestyle. Find what gives you adequate time to be consistent in your reading/studying of the Word.

Its also good to write scripture everywhere, and even start memorizing some, which is what Jewish culture considers “writing the word on your heart.”

We make hundreds or thousands of decisions each day. We need to make a decision to grow in our relationship with God by studying and meditating on His word daily , it will be the most fruitful one you will make in your life.

Lets’s Live The Word!!
